Hello my fellow friends! You're probably wondering what we cooked today. Jared was still in his PJs at 5:00 (he'd been in them all day) so I'd gone to this awesome restaurant earlier with my grandmother and my cousin and I was not hungry at all, so I didn't want to actually look at food since when I'm full, I don't feel like I want to cook at all or look at food at all.
But since I'm doing a 6 month challenge, of course I have to. Today you're probably wondering what I made. The answer is...what are they called? Oh yeah, Gorditas. Those are corn meal with salt, baking powder, and water.
This is the corn meal we buy.
We are not in the UK and Jamie Oliver uses ml and grams for measurements, so we had to buy a little scale a while ago. We're in the US and here we use pounds and ounces. But back to the point. My mom had to look up how much to measure to convert from UK to US. Once we had all that, I just mixed it all together.
It's sticky, so it's kind of like making a cookie. You're supposed to roll it into a ball and then smash it with your hands to make it flat, but not too hard so it doesn't stick to your hand. Then you get a pan and drizzle it with olive oil (actually you should do this first and then do the smashing and stuff).
Then you just put them in the pan and they cook for a few minutes on each side.
We normally call these arrepas because that's what a friend calls them, but my abuela calls them gorditas. They're all the same thing, but there's a lot of different names for them. Call the whatever feels right to you.
I liked it. My brother loves them. He loves them SO much. Nacho Libre would love them, too.
1 1/2 THUMBS UP, though Jared gives them 2 THUMBS UP
I'm glad you are keeping your committment! You're doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI've never had arepas or gorditas, but I want some now. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this great series! I look forward to your posts, although I'm behind right now.
