Day 37 - Gluten Free Monkey Bread

We have brunch at my aunt and uncle's every once in a while. The whole family comes, most of the time. Something they always make is this thing called Monkey Bread. It's this dough rolled in balls with a carmel topping. It's very sweet, very good, and addicting. Every time we go, it's gone in fifteen minutes. Not surprising with 9 cousins and 8 adults.

The Monkey Bread is made out of biscuits (from the refrigerator section at the store), so which means Jared, of course, can't have it because, of course, it has wheat in it.

And so it's torture for Jared every time. He's like, "Errr, I wanna eat it, I wanna eat it."

Today it was brunch again, so Jared said, "Mom you gotta look up a gluten free Monkey Bread recipe," and so she did. And there was something about it on Jamie Oliver's website! Not quite one of his recipes, but my mom said this would be okay, just for today.

We started at 8:00 this morning. We used a packaged gluten free bread mix which you can buy at Kroger, Sprouts, Whole Foods, Central Market, and probably other places. We got ours at Sprouts. It was Hodgson Mill bread mix.

My mom made the mix with the bread machine because me and my little brother were watching a show and it was early. So when that was done, my mom called me over to make little balls out of the dough for the monkey bread.

First I melted 1/2 stick of butter. Then I mixed sugar with cinnamon, quite a lot of cinnamon you will need. Then what you do is make the dough into balls.

They don't have to be perfect since you just have to go into a little dish. The dough was very dough-y-ish. It was very, very sticky. We just kind of set it in the butter, and then you plop it into the cinnamon sugar, and then you roll it around, then you drop it into a bundt pan.

Then you let it rise and then bake it for 45 minutes and then you let it sit for 5 minutes. It'll still be warm.

Then you enjoy!

I thought this was gluten free Monkey Bread was delicious. This and the regular Monkey Bread tasted pretty similar. Jared thought it was really sweet, but it's nothing compared to the Monkey Bread that my aunt makes.

That one is a lot more sweet. My older brother has been attacking it all day. He loved it. So did my dad.

2 THUMBS UP and now Jared has Monkey Bread!
